Frequently Asked Nutrition Questions:

Should I see a nutritionist vs. a dietitian?

When addressing issues related to diet this is a very legitimate question! The degree of knowledge, experience, and most importantly passion for excellence is not measured by a title alone. The Nutritionist profession is not covered by OHIP like a Registered Dietician however a Nutritionist can and will assist you to address your health and wellness in a similar capacity. A dietician is more likely to follow Canada’s food Guidelines and unlikely to suggest eliminations or dietary change unless warranted by a diagnosed disease state; a general dietary prescription is used, that is backed by available scientific research.  Your nutritionist will address bioindividuality and be better able to address diet related-issues based on sensitivities and preferences. Nutritionists are more likely to use alternative therapies to address sensitivities and nutrient deficiencies.

Keren holds a nutrition degree that is accredited by the Dietitians of Canada and has accrued countless hours of real-life, hands-on client coaching beyond textbooks and board exams. Catherine has 3 degrees in health and education disciplines, as well as a diverse background in working with patients and clients across the spectrum of health as a Registered Nurse and Nutritional Therapist.

Intuition Nutrition offers science-based, practical nutrition coaching that yields long-term, life-changing results.

Why would I need a nutritionist when I can make changes on my own?

The fact of the matter is, the majority of people who attempt to change their diet and lifestyle tend to fall off the wagon without professional, follow-ups and on-going support. In this day and age, there is a lot of nutrition information bombarding you from all sides. A Nutritionist will help you filter out diet gimmicks and find long lasting sustainable results. In addition, Nutritionists are professionals who are experienced in dealing with the struggles and obstacles that arise when making lifestyle changes.

I already eat well, but can’t seem to lose weight/gain weight/perform better at my sport; how would a nutritionist help me?

Stubborn weight or performance plateaus can be as a result of underlying health issues that we can help you uncover. Adrenal Fatigue, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and Chronic Stress are increasingly common. Intuition Nutrition can help you find the most effective strategy and nutrition solution to achieving your goals.

What happens in a nutrition coaching session?

We encourage clients to take advantage of our 15-minute consult over the phone or in person to ensure Intuition Nutrition is right for you. An initial consultation is then set up to help us understand your health history, goals and includes an assessment of your current diet and eating patterns.

Following that, the nutritionist works with you to address any health issues through realistic goal setting, as well as a prescription of dietary changes and supplemental suggestions if warranted.

What makes Intuition Nutrition different?

To start, we care. We understand the ups and downs of lifestyle and behavior change and are dedicated to elevating you to the best version of yourself.

In addition, we are well versed in human physiology and the influences that a nutrient dense diet will have on proper digestion, hormonal function and energy regulation. Our diverse, yet complimentary backgrounds in the health sciences position us to provide effective holistic health coaching.

How long will it take to see results?

Long-term, sustainable results take time and are directly dependent on the engagement and effort you are willing to put in to the session. You will work with your nutritionist to set timely goals, which will be measureable and realistic.

How do I get a six-pack? What food can I eat to get a six-pack?

The appearance of your abdominal muscles is a genetically determined feature of your body that indicates nothing of your health/athleticism/strength/speed/energy levels. At Intuition Nutrition, we focus on functional benchmarks that do reflect your health status, such as sleep quality, skin conditions, energy levels, general mood and sports performance. In short, don’t ask us how to get abs.
