W3: Software T11: Meditate

And welcome to your final week of challenges. 

Of course, after this week, the challenge doesn’t stop; you can continue doing these tasks long term to really boost your health throughout 2020 and beyond. 

For this final week, we have 5 awesome tasks lined up for you to reset your body’s ‘software’. This week, we’re looking at your mental and spiritual health, and simple things you can do to improve your overall sense of wellbeing. 

The first task of the week is to:

Meditate

Today, set aside 5-10 minutes to close your eyes, clear your mind and think about nothing but your body and what it feels like to be just where you are in that moment.

If you have never done meditation before, think about downloading a meditation app – there are tons of free ones to choose in either the App Store or on Google Play – to help guide you through a short meditation session and to give you advice on how to go about it.

Once considered an ancient practice of Buddhism and yoga, today we are far more aware of the benefits of meditation for anyone and everyone living in our modern-day world.

No longer is it solely associated with practices sitting cross-legged on the floor, meditation has evolved into something we can do anywhere and at any time as long as the environment allows us to relax and clear our mind.

Meditation is hugely beneficial for every aspect of our health, and it’s a task that really should be incorporated into everyone’s health routine. Just some of the health benefits you can reap from meditation are:

  • Relief from stress
  • Less anxiety
  • Better emotional health and wellbeing
  • Improved awareness of self and of your environment
  • Increased positivity towards yourself and others
  • Better concentration and memory
  • Pain management and blood pressure control
  • Improved sleep

You can now see why many of the world’s most successful people make a meditation session part of their daily routine, where each day, tops CEOs spare a few minutes in the morning, clearing their mind and allowing meditation to prepare them for the day ahead.

Where possible, set your alarm just 5 minutes earlier to allow a short morning meditation before you start your day. If you’d like to learn more about meditation or wish to do longer sessions, check out the availability of meditation classes in your area.

If you’ve ever heard of flotation therapy, you’ll know that it, too, has all of the benefits of meditation.

Flotation therapy involves floating in a pool in a spacious tank, where you are able to quiet your mind, dull your senses and feel completely relaxed.
