    Plantar Fasciitis Treatment in Toronto

That stabbing first-step-in-the-morning heel pain isn\'t about your foot alone. We treat plantar fasciitis as a chain problem — calf, posterior tibialis, hip mechanics and footwear — not as an isolated heel issue. That\'s why our patients resolve in weeks, not months.

What is the fastest way to relieve plantar fasciitis?

A combination of deep manual work on the plantar fascia and calf, dry-needling or acupuncture for trigger-point release, and a short course of night-splinting plus loaded calf raises resolves most cases within 4–8 weeks. Rest alone rarely fixes it because the issue is load-tolerance, not inflammation.

    Is plantar fasciitis actually inflammation?

No — current evidence calls it plantar fasciopathy, a degenerative collagen-loading problem, not classical inflammation. That\'s why anti-inflammatories often help only briefly. The fix is graded mechanical loading combined with manual therapy that restores tissue glide.

    The chain problem

The plantar fascia is the end of a kinetic chain that starts at the hip. Tight calves, weak glute medius, and a stiff big toe all dump load onto the heel. Treating the heel in isolation is why so many people stay stuck for a year.

    • Soleus, gastrocnemius and Achilles release
    • Plantar fascia myofascial work and instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilisation (IASTM)
    • Acupuncture and electroacupuncture to the gastroc/soleus trigger points
    • Big-toe (1st MTP) joint mobilisation
    • Hip and glute reactivation drills

    Footwear and the loading program

You can't out-massage a barefoot routine on Toronto pavement. We audit your shoe rotation, recommend a temporary supportive shoe, and progressively load you back into your old footwear as the fascia tolerates it. Loaded calf raises (Silbernagel protocol) form the backbone of the home program.

When to consider imaging or shockwave

If you're past 6 weeks of consistent manual therapy and loading with no progress, we coordinate referral for diagnostic ultrasound or shockwave therapy. Most patients never need it.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How long until I can run again?

Most runners are back to short, easy runs within 3–6 weeks of starting treatment, with full mileage in 8–12 weeks if they stay consistent with loading and footwear.

    Do I need orthotics?

Sometimes — but they're a tool, not a cure. We use them temporarily to reduce symptoms while we rebuild calf and foot strength so you can eventually go without.

Is acupuncture effective for plantar fasciitis?

Yes — multiple randomised trials show acupuncture and dry needling of the calf trigger points significantly reduce plantar heel pain, especially in chronic cases.

How many sessions will I need?

Most patients see meaningful change in 3–4 sessions and full resolution within 6–10. We re-assess every 3 visits and stop treatment once you're self-managing.
